Are you ready for the promotion that you have been dreaming of?
According to best-selling author of management, Suzy Welch, it’s going to take a lot of work. However, there are two ways on how to promote without coming across as overly ambitious.
When you are in the working world, it is the bare minimum to turn in your assignments, projects, and tasks on time. If you want to get promoted, you’ve got to do more. Over-delivering involves revisiting the ways you are doing your job and thinking of ways on how you can improve the overall processes.
If you consider your job as an opportunity, you are going to expand your job responsibilities to help the company and help your team. Over-delivering is about making everyone in your team better, not just yourself.
Don’t deplete your boss’s political juice.
Your boss has a certain influence in the business and can even sway others based on the goodwill and trust they’ve established. This, however, isn’t unlimited, and you don’t want to be the one using it all up.
Don’t let your boss exert extra effort in defending, covering, and explaining for you to other higher-ups or your colleagues. Surprisingly, this happens to stellar performers who don’t play well with others.
